Turning Green into Green

When you invest money, you help a business grow. You are making it happen for a company – but is it a company that will be good for the Earth, or one that’s trashing the planet? What good is living green in your daily life if you invest in the long-term future of polluters?

Check out the Socially Responsible Investment Forum (affiliated with Coop America) to find, good, socially responsible places to invest your hard earned dollars. There are more options than you might think. You'll see performance charts and descriptions of what each fund screens for.

Also, keep in mind that you have the right to ask questions of your company's 401k manager. Find out if your company offers an option to invest in socially responsible funds. If they don't, ask them to add socially responsible funds to your company's investment options. Then, make the switch to investments that you feel are good for both monetary returns and social responsibility.
