Help us bring Solar Lanters to India

This December, Live Green teamed up with Green Drinks DC to take on a Citizen Effect project!  We've already told you about the great people at Citizen Effect and the amazing projects their Citizen Philanthropists are working on, and now we could use your help to make our very own project happen.

We are fundraising $3,050 to pay for solar lanterns for the Khengarpar community in India that is currently without electricity.  Families in Khengarpar need solar lights so they can conduct activities such as cooking and cleaning before sunrise and after sunset. The lights are also crucial in helping villagers ward off wild animals and fend off harmful insects.

The community solar lights will provide the village with a highly-needed, sustainable source of light that can be charged during the day and used at night. Rather than scavenging for wood and cutting down small trees, which leads to deforestation, these solar lights provide an alternative that reduces deforestation and the village's dependence on kerosene, which can be a danger and health hazard.

We have already raised some funds for this project, but we need your help!  A $25 donation will go a long way in helping us reach our goal.  Please share this story with friends and family as well, and let us know if you are interested in getting more involved in this project.  Learn more about the Khengarpar Community Solar Lights Project and donate online here.
