| | In October 2011, we hosted an evening under the open sky with Chef Thomas Elder of Harth Restaurant, appetizers, wine, and live music to raise $1,000 for Bread for the City - to support a year's worth of gardening workshops for their low-income clients. The event was held on Bread for the City's garden-laden green rooftop, made possible by DC Greenworks. | | | This extra special happy hour is now a staple event of ours. Live Green's first foray into the single dating crowd occurred at Cafe Green, where singles from all over the DC Metro Area enjoyed organic wine and beer selections while playing get-to-know-you bingo and discussing their bucket list items. | | | For the Low Oil Challenge, our members' carbon reliance was tested as they set out to avoid driving, avoid buying anything new, and eat only vegan food for two weeks. All participants blogged about their experiences and had a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Cafe Green, a $100 dollar gift certificate to Goodwill, or free Zipcar membership. | | | One of Live Green's signature events, Green Rush is an insanely fun, green-themed city-wide scavenger hunt. In its first year, it sent over 500 people running around DC in search of green clues and in pursuit of a $1000 prize. | | | We held the Peace Potluck in conjunction with the "10-10-10" day of action, a global work party to fight climate change. Participants joined us afterward in a celebratory community gathering. | | | Live Green was thrilled to host a viewing of "Fuel," a documentary about fuel use in the U.S. and exciting eco-friendly energy alternatives that are on the horizon. After the movie. After the movie, Fuel's filmmaker hosted a Q&A session after riding up in an algae fueled car from California. | | | Hundreds of new Live Green supporters arose via our Big Green Bash, a member-to-member recruitment drive party. We awarded a round trip ticket to anywhere in the United States, and our top-recruiter scored a weekend vacation at a green bed & breakfast. | | | Our eco-feast drew hundreds of people to the Art of Living Center for a giant buffet of eco-friendly food. We awarded NBC news reporter Wendy Reiger The Green Champion Award for her work highlighting ways to go green in the DC area. | | | Out of a partnership with Zipcar and Coalition for Smarter Growth emerged an event filled with confessions of our gravest eco-sins hosted by The Warehouse - like the shocking admission of our squirrel friend here. | | | To celebrate our third year in existence, we threw a smash hit Summer Block Party featuring local fusion band House of Soul, plenty of delicious food, snazzy drinks, and prizes. The party, held in summer 2011 marked the accumulation of over 2600 members and 60 spots! | | | Having reached 49 spots and over 1300 members by our second birthday, we celebrated accordingly by throwing a rockin' party. Scrumptious catered food, spoken word performances, and a stellar performance by See-I contributed to an unforgettable evening. | | | Happy 1st birthday, Live Green! In June 2009, we joyously celebrated Live Green's achievement of reaching 1019 members and spots while See-I got us on our feet with an amazing musical set featuring talent from DC's own Thievery Corporation. |
