When our President and GEO, Steve Ma, welcomed our first members at a Local 16 celebration on June 18, 2008, Live Green had already been in the works for more than a year. 

It all started when a group of eco-conscious DC locals found themselves meeting over delicious (organic and vegetarian) meals at a Washington, DC restaurant called Java Green.  Somewhere between the noodle bowls and smoothies we realized that businesses like Java Green should not be the exception, but rather the rule throughout DC, the country, and ultimately the world.  Enter, Live Green!  The plan was to make Live Green an organization that gives everyone – consumers, businesses, and the planet – a giant, green boost. 

There were pockets of green businesses beginning to sprout and groups of eco-conscious consumers seeking them out. But to solve the earth's problems, we needed to make green living part of the mainstream. For so many, green living was seen as too complicated, too difficult, and too expensive. Live Green seeks to break those myths. Through our screening process and focus on practical solutions, we find the businesses that make green living much easier and more accessible. Through our discounts and focus on businesses that offer competitive prices, we make green living more affordable and in many instances, cheaper than conventional living. And through our community events, online networks, and more, we help people connect and support one another as we walk on this greener path together.
